Let’s get the drink out of the way first. Yep, it’s a Singapore Sling turned tropical, I should say “made more tropical” with the addition of the papaya (the seeds are edible and will lend a peppery bite—totally up to you— take it or leave it) and some Serrano chilies for heat. If you haven’t tried a cocktail with heat—do it, you won’t regret it.
Okay, now for the serious stuff. Correct me if I wrong, but the whole idea of stretch pants is to—well, stretch. You know what happens when there’s a stretch-pant-fail?
You kinda want to cry is what happens. But crying will likely cause the muffin-top to jiggle and therefore call attention to it. So you know what you do? You roll with it. Literally. Grab that elastic waist band and show it whose boss—roll that band down as far as you need to relieve the muffin-top “poof” and throw a blouse-y top over it. Done.
And that dear friends, was what left the biggest impression on me this week – stretch pants are a big bait and switch? I feel ripped off and that is some serious stuff, never mind real world news.
Papaya and Serrano Sling
- 6 oz. papaya, seeded and pureed
- 1 serrano chili sliced
- 4 oz. pineapple juice
- 4 oz. dry gin
- 1 oz. Agave syrup
- 1 oz. lime juice
- 3 dash Peychaud's bitters
- Seed Papaya; set seeds aside. Puree papaya.
- Place pureed papaya in shaker and add in three slices of serrano chilies and muddle. Add remaining ingredients and papaya seeds, then shake and pour over ice-filled glass.
A few notes:
- To leave the heat of out of the drink, skip the serranos.
- The papaya seeds are optional, but I highly recommend them since they add a good peppery flavor.
